What is Permaculture?

Permaculture is a form of Eco-Social Design

A wonderful concoction of design frameworks and tools guided by principles and underpinned by the Permaculture Ethics.

You can create design solutions for your land and home; rural, suburban and urban. You can design for your own self-care, family, community or organisation.

We acknowledge and are deeply grateful to our ancestors.

Permaculture Design is based on methods and strategies that have been used by indigenous people, community elders and innovative regenerative farmers for many, many generations.

In the 1970s, in Australia, Bill Mollison and David Holmgren collected and shared some of this knowledge along with their own observations of regenerative forest and agricultural systems. Over the following decades Permaculture has been spread across the globe by many teachers, writers and practitioners. As it has spread more wisdom has been gathered and shared.

Permaculture Design continues to grow and evolve.

Part of a prompting of a great relearning and remembering how we are part of nature's systems and can live abundant, joyful lives whilst taking care of our home, Planet Earth.

Does this sound like something you'd like to be part of?

My Permaculture Journey

01

Looking for a Slower Pace

I was looking for a way to slow down and live a simpler more contented life in harmony with Mother Earth.

In 2005 I read Starhawk's 'Earth Path' and saw the word Permaculture for the first time. I then read everything I could find on the subject and subscribed to Permaculture Magazine. BLOG LINK

Deep dive with the Diploma

In 2016 I started the Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design.

This incredible journey of self-guided learning expertly supported by my Diploma Tutor, Hannah Thorogood has been the most rewarding educational experience of my life.

02

Permaculture Design Course

In 2010 I completed a Permaculture Design Certificate course with Angus Soutar. You'll hear it alot, and it's true, the PDC was truly mind-opening and life-changing.

I spent the next  few years designing for our homelife, a house move, a suburban home retrofit, allotments and gardens.

Transformative Designs

Permaculture Design has helped my family and I work towards a sustainable lifestyle and earth loving existence. We have created a life well-lived in co-habitation with Mother Earth. I have deepend my understanding and appreciation of Permaculture Design.  Find out more about my experiences so far here.

I've found purpose and hope in times that are challenging. I am deeply grateful to those who have gone before and shared their indigenous knowledge and elder wisdom.

I'm excited for you to be part of this transformative community and to share and support you on your Permaculture journey.
